inka trail

Today I took a short drive down the valley to the trail head of the world famouse Inka Trail. It is known here as Km 82. This is where the hikers regester in, cross the bridge and start walking 4 days over inka trails to arrive at Machu picchu. This is one of the top 10 adventure tours sold in the world. Things have changed in the past few years when it was open to everyone who wanted to walk it, alone or with a outfitter. Now you can only go with a few doz official tour operators, and there is a limited number allowed in each day, making a 6 month waiting list. Gone are the days of arriving in Cusco and going on the trial, Now it is compleetly booked May to October. This is a good thing, it is much cleaner and safer and less crowded now, as well as a lot more expencive. The outfitters here charge about $220 for the 4 day, re sellers sell this for as much as $1600 same trip,,, go figure.

A toruist is filming all her adventure on her cool mini cam as she heads for the entrance control house.

this guy has cool new hiking boots

Mr new boots stops on the bridge over the Urubamba river to have his freind take his picture. I hope he does not get blisters at 14,000 ft above sealevel.
